Sunil Bedi, a resident of Greater Kailash and also CMD of a reputed group of companies which has a corporate office in Gurgaon, complained to the police that on February 21, he received a ransom letter through Speed Post, demanding Rs 10 crore in two instalments of Rs 5 crore each.
Police then registered an FIR at the GK-I police station and the mobile number mentioned in the letter was put on surveillance.
Police said that technical surveillance was mounted and the team zeroed in on two middle-aged persons identified as Kamal Rana and Lalit Narang. Both of them were apprehended.
Kamal was later found to be a former employee of Bedi's company.
Kamal told the police that he planned to extort money from a rich industrialist and businessman who could be a soft target.
"It was also learnt that the duo used to visit a lady whose daughter was a friend of Ramesh. They used to send her vulgar, threatening messages and obscene videos and pictures.
"To settle scores with Ramesh, they mentioned his name and mobile number in the ransom letter, the officer added," said a senior police official.
