A police officer was arrested in Odisha's Kandhamal district today allegedly for taking Rs 10,000 bribe from a man for not entangling him in a case, a vigilance official said.
Officer in-Charge of Chakapada police station, Haribandhu Parida, red-handed while accepting the money inside the police station, Vigilance SP, Mayadhar Swain, said.
The accused police officer had allegedly demanded Rs 10,000 as bribe for sparing the complainant in a case. The complainant reported the matter to the vigilance.
A trap was laid and he was captured, Swain said adding that and the bribe money was recovered from Parida.
The arrested police officer's residential quarter at Chakapada and paternal house at Ganapati Nagar in Berhampur were being searched, he said.
