Police today foiled efforts by a group of youths to take out a rally defying prohibitory orders in the district, an official said.
The youths tried to take out the rally without permission of the district administration which has promulgated section 144 of CRPC and they were stopped at the Azamgarh turn, Inspector City Kotwali Parmanand Misra said.
As the youths tried to force their way, police had to use mild force, Misra said.
However, the youths have alleged that police manhandled and misbehaved with them.
