A police spokesperson said in a statement that a case has been registered at Dispur police station against Gogoi, "who made some objectionable remarks with criminal conspiracy before media ... Which has created conflict between two communities".
Gogoi, leader of Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti(KMSS), had alleged that the woman from Meghalaya who was found hanging at Dispur police station was raped and murdered by policemen inside Dispur police station, which is located next to the Secretariat complex.
He had also alleged that the body was left to hang inside a toilet to make it a case of suicide.
The 39-year-old woman from Shillong was found hanging inside a toilet of Dispur police station on Sunday night, leading to Guwahati Police Commissioner Mukesh Agrawal to order a probe by Joint Commissioner N M A S F Haque.
Following the incident, the women's wing of KMSS Nari Mukti Sangram Samiti held protests in front of the Dispur police station today.
Four protesters were arrested for "obstructing public servants from discharging their duties", Assistant Commissioner of Police (Dispur) Suprotive Lal Baruah said.
Meghalaya State Women's Commission too sought a report from Meghalaya Police on the unnatural death of the woman in the police station in Assam.
