Police rescues 6 abducted NEEPCO employees

Six employees of the North East Electrical Power Corporation, who were allegedly abducted by a local recently, were rescued from Bebo colony in East Kameng district and a person was arrested in the case, police said.
A joint police team of the East and West Kameng districts of Arunachal Pradesh yesterday arrested the accused Hano Jakhiyo and rescued the six persons, they said.
A NEEPCO employee's car rammed against the car of a local resident Jakhiyo on March 29 following which he seized two vehicles of the NEEPCO and abducted driver Bishnu Tamang and helper Ajit Doimari, they said.
Jakhiyo also demanded Rs 10 lakh as compensation, they said.
Later Jakhiyo, accompanied with 24 other persons armed with sharp weapons, abducted four other drivers of NEEPCO, Dhurup Patel, Khandu Tamang, Kumar Tamang and Jotin Mushary, they said.
A case was registered at Rupa police station on March 31 following which the police raided the area and rescued the abducted persons. The vehicles were also taken back, they said.
Jakhio was arrested and after production in a local court was remanded to seven days' police custody.
