Kurukshetra Police today claimed to have solved the abduction case of Aditya Singhala, son of a local businessman, by arresting the remaining three accused, bringing the number of those nabbed in the case to five.
Superintendent of Police Simardeep Singh told media persons here today that the three accused, who were absconding after the police recovered the kidnapped 27-year-old Aditya in August, were arrested last evening.
The police had earlier nabbed the other two accused and recovered an amount of Rs 1.74 crore out of the ransom money of Rs 2 crore, from the residence of main accused, Anil Mittal, at Karnal.
The SP said the three accused, namely Mittal, Sukhbir Kala and Balbir Singh, were arrested on a tip off, at Karnal when they were alighting from a bus from Meerut, at about 8 pm on Sunday.
He said the accused had come to visit their homes in Karnal district hoping that the police pressure in the case had eased out. All three accused carried an award of Rs 50,000 each which had been announced by the state government for any information leading to their arrest.
The three accused were produced before the local court today where they were remanded into police custody for a week.
Singh said all the accused are in the age group of 25 to 30 years and it was their first crime of abduction.
He said they had planned the kidnapping to meet their huge debts due to 'satta' (gambling) and their involvement in other petty crimes.
Aditya was kidnapped in a car in front of his residence when he had come out for a stroll at about 10 PM on August 23. A ransom of Rs 4 crore was later sought by the kidnappers.
However, a ransom of Rs 2 crore was finalised and delivered at a dhaba near Karnal four days later to get Aditya released. However, the accused managed to escape during the police raid at the site of exchange.
