Sub-inspector A Jagan Mohan, attached to Peddapalli Police Station, allegedly shot himself with his service revolver at his residence last night, DSP, Nalla Malla Reddy said.
The deceased's family members said that he was apparently upset with his transfer as he was expecting promotion as a Circle Inspector sometime soon.
Mohan was recently transferred to Jammikunta in the district, however he was yet to be relieved from Peddapalli police station, the DSP said.
A suicide note was recovered from the site, Reddy said, adding Mohan hailed from Vidyanagar locality of this district and is survived by his wife.
"The exact reason behind the officer committing suicide is not yet known. The suicide note was handed over to revenue officials and the body has been sent for post-mortem," he said.
