Gurjeet Kaur (70) was found murdered in her Rohini residence with her hands and legs tied to a rope and her mouth taped last evening and one of her maids Nandini, whom she appointed two weeks ago, is missing.

Suspicion fell on Nandini as it came to light during investigations that she had introduced herself as Sonia or Sonu at some other places where she was working in the nearby locality.

"She had engaged a maid Nandini for household work nearly 15 days back. It was also learnt that Nandini had been negotiating with Kaur for buying an old sofa from her," M A Rizvi, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer), said.

Kaur had also told her daughter Inderpal Grover yesterday that Nandini and her husband were coming to her house to take the sofa after getting a telephone call from the maid, he said.

The guard at the colony told the police that he had seen the maid and two men coming out of the house yesterday afternoon. Later, Kaur's another maid came to the house and found her lying on bed unconscious.

"She soon informed a neighbour. Kaur was found with her hands and legs tied with rope and mouth taped. The neighbour untied the rope and removed the tape but Kaur was dead by that time," Rizvi said.

Rizvi said "there was very strong suspicion that the maid who was engaged two weeks back and was in talks to buy the old sofa has committed this crime for the purpose of robbery of valuable articles from the house."

During investigations, police procured video footage of the suspected woman from a shop where she was was employed a few weeks back.

Kaur has been living alone for the past few years as her husband died and her daughters lived elsewhere. Her son is living abroad.
