Police told not to disturb innocent people, says CM

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar today asserted that the three-decade-old insurgency in the state could be contained as the government has ordered the police to handle militants with a firm hand without disturbing innocent people.
"We do believe that cops have no right to disturb the peace loving people and at the same time the government has mandated the police to act against those who pose threat to peace and tranquillity," Sarkar said in a seminar on police reform, organised by Police Accountability Commission (PAC).
He said that police must be accountable for it's deeds and they were also human being and work with a human face. "We should not have complacency that militancy was wiped out completely," he said.

The chief minister also stressed for sensitisation and modernisation of police for better contribution to the society.
"People have been facing various problems and increasingly becoming restive as their basic needs are not addressed. In such a situation, it's tough for police to maintain peace," he said.
Chief Justice of Tripura High Court Justice Deepak Gupta praised the state police force for combating the insurgency against all odds.

"I have visited almost all sub-divisions of the state and I did not find any extremist trouble. Police have done a really commendable job," he said.
Justice Gupta, however, said the state police force really needs to work hard to improve its investigation skill.

"I will give A or A+ mark to the state police for maintaining law and order situation but the same force is very poor when it comes to investigation," he said.
The Police Accountability Commission (PAC), Tripura had organised the one-day seminar.
