A police assistant sub inspector (ASI) was today caught red-handed while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000 from a shop owner.
The accused ASI Brajpal Singh Kushwaha was arrested while taking the bribe from Kailash Piple, proprietor of a locks shop located in Ranipur here, a Lokayukta police official said.
"Kushwaha had threatened Piple saying that he was carrying out the construction work of his shop without the approval of the Central Kotwali police station, where he was posted," the official added.
Based on the complaint lodged by the victim, a trap was laid and the ASI was held.
"The accused had demanded bribe from the victim, although police have no authority to clear any construction work," he said.
The ASI has been booked under Prevention of Corruption Act. Further investigation into the case is on.
