"Balkrishna Shinde, attached to Bhiwandi taluka police station, was on duty at the bypass when a speeding tempo coming from Nashik hit him around 12 midnight," said sub-inspector M R Shelar of Bhiwandi taluka police station.
The driver of the tempo, identified as Sadashiv Masi (38) has been arrested on the charges of rash and negligence driving under various sections of IPC and under sections 184 and 187 of the Motor Vehicles Act.
Shinde's mortal remains are taken to his home place in Mahad in Raigad district.
