The State Election Commission of Maharashtra has asked Mumbai municipal commissioner Ajoy Mehta to ascertain veracity of allegations against a Shiv Sena corporator who won from a ward in north Mumbai.
In a letter to the BMC chief, the SEC said it has taken cognisance of a plea by defeated BJP candidate from the ward Nisha Parulekar-Bangera that Shiv Sena's Madhuri Yogesh Bhoir, who won from ward 25, had submitted a false affidavit to the poll authorities.
Bangera alleged that Bhoir did not disclose particulars of vehicle and details of some other property owned by her.
SEC said Mehta should act (against Bhoir) as per provisions of a 2013 order of the Commission, which mandates action against a candidate who submits false information to poll authorities.
In the February 21 BMC poll, from ward 25 (Kandivali east) a total of 15,466 votes were cast. Sena candidate Madhuri Bhoir won after securing 7,185 and Bangera secured 6,792 votes, while hopefuls from the Congress (778 votes), MNS (275 votes) and NCP (105 votes) lost their deposits.
