Poll timing reduced in five assembly segments of two LS seats

The Election Commission (EC) has reduced poll timings by two hours in five assembly segments spread over two parliamentary constituencies in Bihar over perceived Maoist threat during the sixth and final phase of Lok Sabha elections in the state on May 12.
Of these Minapur, Paru and Sahebganj assembly segments come under Vaishali Lok Sabha seat, while Valmikinagar and Ramnagar segments fall within Valmikinagar Lok Sabha constituency.
"These areas will go to polls from 7am to 4pm on May 12 instead of the 7am to 6pm timing stipulated for the areas facing no naxal-threat," said Additional Chief Electoral Officer R Lakshmanan while talking to reporters.

Six parliamentary constituencies- Valmikinagar, East Champaran, West Champaran, Vaishali, Gopalganj and Siwan are going to polls in this phase.
Around 90.52 lakh voters will get a chance to exercise their franchise at 8,582 polling stations, and decide the fate of 90 candidates in fray.
"As per EC directions, the Indo-Nepal border along Valmikinagar, East Champaran and West Champaran constituencies will be sealed from 7am on May 10 to the end of polls on May 12. People will be allowed to cross the border only in emergency situations. Bihar's border with Uttar Pradesh along Valmikinagar, West Champaran, Gopalganj and Siwan will also be sealed," added Lakshmanan.

Meanwhile, EC has decided to hold repoll at two polling stations at Bathnaha and Runni Saidpur in Sitamarhi on May 11 from 7am to 4pm.
