Pondy Minister rushes to Yanam to oversee relief operations

: Puducherry Health and Tourism Minister Malladi Krishna Raotoday rushed to his home constituency Yanam to oversee relief operations in low lying areas, flooded following heavy discharge from Dowleshwaram and Badrachalam dams in Andhra Pradesh into the Godavari river.
Yanam, an enclave of Puducherry, is situated in the East Godavari district in Andhra Pradesh.
PWD sources in Yanam told PTI tody that the water level in the river in Yanam increased following discharge of around 14 lakh cusecs from Dowleshwaram.
All low lying areas in Yanam were inundated, Revenue department sources in Yanam said.
A control room has been opened in PWD and around 200 families in low lying areas were evacuated and accommodated in the relief centre.

Rao held discussions with the officials of departments concerned with the flood relief works.
