Talking to reporters here, Poojari's mother Yashoda urged the government to order a CBI probe into the case "as the police investigation is not moving in the proper direction".
She alleged that police were reluctant to question many of those suspected to have extended support to the culprits. She deplored the remark of Sports and Fisheries Minister Abhayachandra Jain, representing Moodbidri, that Poojari had been a trouble-maker.
Yashoda thanked the Hindu outfits that helped the family after the murder. Puttur Sarvajanika Ganeshotsava Samithi handed over a cheque of Rs 1.02 lakh to the family on the occasion.
A flower vendor by profession, Poojary was against animal trafficking and has been involved in several raids on slaughter houses. He was hacked to death by six motorcycle- borne assailants at Moodbidri on October 9.
