A 15-year-old girl allegedly committed suicide by consuming some poisonous substance at a government school in northeast Delhi's Yamuna Vihar area today.
The incident was reported around 12 noon by the school authorities, after they rushed the girl, a class X student to hospital. However, no suicide note was recovered by the police, said DCP (northeast) Veenu Bansal.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the girl asked her teacher for permission to go to the washroom around 10.30 AM and when she did not return for a long time, another student was sent to check on her, who raised an alarm, said police.
The girl's body was handed over to her relatives after postmortem examination. Only the autopsy report can tell what substance she had allegedly consumed, said police.
The police have questioned several classmates, teachers and parents of the deceased girl, but the motive behind the extreme step hasn't been ascertained yet. The police are also checking her call details and other input crucial to the probe.
Some relatives had claimed that the mother of the girl had scolded her last night for some reasons, after which her behaviour changed. She didn't talk much with anyone in the school today.
Investigation of the case is underway, police added.
