Portions of two houses collapse in Kolkata, none injured

While incessant rainfall lashed Kolkata today, portions of two houses collapsed in the city, but nobody was injured in the incidents, police said.
In the first incident, 12 inhabitants of an old dilapidated building in south Kolkata's Alipore area escaped unhurt after the roof and portion of a wall collapsed this afternoon following today's heavy rainfall, a police officer said.
"Nobody was injured in the incident and our officers managed to evacuate 12 inhabitants of the building, which was declared "condemned" by the civic authority," a senior officer of Kolkata Police said.
The roof and a wall of the building on Gopal Nagar Road in Alipore suddenly collapsed at around 2pm, he said.

In another incident, a lady and her two daughters received minor injuries when a rainwater pipe of an under construction building in Tangra area fell on them today morning, police said.
The incident happened around 7 am when the water pipe on the fifth floor of the building on Christopher Road fell on the woman and her daughters, a police officer said.
According to Kolkata Police, around 45 trees were uprooted due to inclement weather.
"Since early morning, due to heavy rainfall and gusty winds the vehicular traffic movement in many parts of the city were disrupted as trees were uprooted and breaking of big boughs. The situation turned adverse when the electrical service lines, cable TV wires were snapped because of uprooted trees," the IPS officer said.
