Two days after a passenger train derailed due to soil erosion below tracks near Nandurbar district following heavy rains, rail movement on the route continues to remain affected even as the restoration work by Western Railway (WR) was going on in "full swing".
The WR, in a statement issued, said that owing to the derailment, various trains on the route have been cancelled, diverted, short terminated or rescheduled.
"Today, three trains were partially cancelled while four trains were short terminated. Seven trains were re-scheduled and six trains were diverted," it said.
The rail traffic on WR's Mumbai Division between Surat and Nandurbar section was disrupted due to derailment of five coaches of Train No 69161 Surat-Nandurbar MEMU between Dhekvad and Nandurbar stations at 11.35 PM on July 10, after soil beneath the tracks got washed away due to heavy rains in the region.
"The restoration work at derailment site near Nandurbar station of Western Railway's Mumbai Division is going on in full swing despite continuous rain in the area," the statement said.
"Immediately after the incident, the restoration work at the site was launched in full swing. However, due to heavy rain in the area, the work got affected. But, best possible efforts are being carried out by the restoration team to put the rail traffic back on track at the earliest. Various senior railway officers are monitoring the restoration work round the clock," it said.
"However, considering the current situation, various trains plying over WR have been cancelled/partially cancelled/ rescheduled/ diverted and short terminated. Five special refund counters have also been opened, including two counters at Surat station and one each at Udhna, Nandurbar and Navapur stations and an amount of approximately Rs 30 lakh has been refunded so far," added the statement.
