Post offices in Mumbai start disbursing Rs 2,000 notes

After initial hiccups in the morning, few city-based post offices started disbursing Rs 2,000 notes to those who had come to exchange demonetised notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000.
"The Reserve Bank Of India provided Rs four crore to the GPO and other post offices in Mumbai around 12 PM. The new notes were being exchanged with scrapped notes after 1 PM and all the notes were disbursed to people who were standing in queue," Harish Chandra Agrawal, Chief Post Master General of Maharashtra and Goa Circle, told PTI.
The senior official urged people not to panic as they have been given sufficient time to exchange their demonetised notes.

"India Post has a vast network and it may take some time for the newly printed notes to reach the various post offices, sub-post Offices and gramin dak sewa offices. But we are hopeful that our services (to collect scrapped notes and exchanging it) would get streamlined from tomorrow," he said.
Meanwhile, a serpentine queue was seen outside GPO in South Mumbai to exchange notes. After getting the new pink-coloured notes, people were seen taking selfies with it.
"From tomorrow we would get notes of Rs 100 and Rs 500 also, beside Rs 2,000 denominations," Agrawal said.

However, even today the note ban remained to be a talking point with a few hailing it while some expressing their displeasure with Centre's move.

Sunil Saigal, who runs a Punjabi Moti Halwai, a famous restaurant in Fort in South Mumbai, termed the move as "revolutionary".
"Only two days after Modiji took this historical decision, Rupee is becoming stronger against Dollar. We are definitely going to be stronger at global front in near future," he added.
