With complaints of power cuts pouring in from different parts of Odisha amid heat wave conditions, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today asked the energy department to open social media accounts to address grievances.
Patnaik issued this direction while reviewing the power cut situation at a meeting here.
The chief minister's twitter and facebook accounts are flooded with complaints of power cuts and suffering of people in the peak summer.
Asking the energy department to open its social media accounts within three days, Patnaik asked officials to follow Chief Minister Office's twitter and facebook accounts closely.
He also cautioned officials to ensure that the people do not suffer as the state has sufficient power to meet its requirement.
During the review meeting, it came to light that places like Kesinga, Baliguda, Patnagarh and Padmapur have been severely hit due to power cuts.
The problems of Patnagarh and Padmapur will be solved by tomorrow, the officials told the chief minister.
Patnaik suggested the department to engage more manpower to solve the power cut crisis and if required, field level officials be asked to purchase essential equipment to restore power.
State Energy minister Prafulla Kumar Mallick said the state produces 4,300 MW daily against its requirement of the same units of power.
"So there is no shortage of power in the state," he said.
Meanwhile, BJP legislature party leader K V Singhdeo on Monday staged a dharna in front of the local electricity office at Patnagarh in Bolangir district protesting against frequent power cuts in the area.
