The Chhattisgarh police today recovered a powerfulIED, allegedly planted by Naxals, in Kanker district.
A joint team of the district force and Border Security Force was patrolling when it spotted a connection of the improvised explosive device (IED) beneath the dirt track near a culvert on Kanker's Badgaon-Himmatwahi road, located around 200 kms from the state capital, a police official told PTI.
Later, the security personnel recovered the explosive kept in a steel container.
The IEd, weighing nearly eight kgs, was immediately destroyed by the bomb disposal squad, the official said.
The Maoists have been planting the IEDs to target security forces and stall the developmental works in the state.
They mostly plant landmines close to trees and culverts. Several times in the past security men as well as villagers have become victims of such Maoist blasts.
