: Claiming that cloth traders were giving lesser wages than fixed during tripartite talks some months ago, powerloom workers in Somanur on the outskirts of the city have decided to observe a five day fast from December 23.
Power Loom Job workers association sources alleged that the traders had of late been giving them lesser wages than that which was fixed.
The strike by members, who own nearly two lakh powerlooms, was to highlight their plight and to draw the attention of the government to the issue, the sources said.
The future course of action will be decided during the course of the agitation, they added.
