Prabhu inaugurates facilities in Mumbai section of Western Rly

Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu today inaugurated several passenger amenities in the Mumbai suburban section of the Western Railway through video conference from the Rail Bhavan in New Delhi.
G C Agrawal, General Manager of Western Railway and Central railway, and Mukul Jain, Divisional Railway Manager, Mumbai Central Division, were present on this occasion.
Prabhu inaugurated the 'home platform' and booking office of Bandra Terminus, escalator and booking office at Kandivali station and three escalators at Goregaon station.
Simultaneously, local BJP MP Gopal Shetty inaugurated the new escalator at Kandivali while the party MLA Ashish Shelar unveiled plaque for inauguration of home platform and booking office at Bandra Terminus.
A release from the Western Railway said the work of remodelling of yard to provide a new home platform at Bandra was executed as a part of Mumbai Urban Transport Project-II at a cost of around Rs 33.24 crore.
Construction of elevated booking office at Bandra was carried out at a cost of Rs 1.5 crore.
Bandra is the second major terminus (apart from being a busy suburban station) after Mumbai Central in Mumbai Division of Western Railway, dealing with 40 pairs of trains daily.
It handles, on an average 14,000 reserved and 6,000 unreserved originating passengers per day, generating earnings of Rs 94.83 lakh and Rs. 10.99 lakh, respectively.
Goregaon station caters to over 1.54 lakh originating passengers every day. Its daily average passenger earnings are about Rs 8.78 lakh.
With the addition of escalators, Goregaon station will now have six escalators in all.
