Well-known kathak dancer Prachee Shah has performed the classical Indian dance and enthralled audience with her performance at an event in Giza organised as part of a cultural cooperation between India and Egypt.
The programme on Monday was held at the Sayed Darwish Theatre, Academy of Arts, in Giza - the third largest city in Egypt.
It was attended by Indian Ambassador Sanjay Bhattacharyya, Camelia Sobhi, First Under Secretary for Foreign Cultural Relations, Ministry of Culture, and Ahalm Younis, President of Academy of Arts.
The performance by Prachee Shah and her troupe was organised by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations and the Ministry of Culture.
Kathak, one of the popular Indian classical dance forms, originated in north India, particularly in Rajasthan's Jaipur.
The dance form is performed in temples as a prayer to God sub-consciously to achieve inner peace & the salvation of soul.
Kathak is derived from the word Katha, meaning story telling through dance.
In ancient India, there were 'Kathakaar' -- who used to recite religious & mythological tales to people through music, mime & dance.
