The Congress in Haryana today hit out at the state government for "paralysis in the administration" during the Jat quota stir and demanded "prompt and deterrent action" against officials named in the Parkash Singh Committee report.
Referring to the 451-page report which has now been made public, Haryana Congress Legislature Party leader Kiran Choudhry said, "It holds a mirror to the inaction and passivity of the state government and nails its oft-repeated claims on good governance."
"It has blamed some highest functionaries in the government for failing to show the kind of guidance, direction and control required in such a situation," the former excise and taxation minister claimed.
The stir in February by Jats demanding reservation led to 30 deaths and property worth crores of rupees was damaged.
"Officers displayed cowardice, or hesitated to take strong action for fear that they would not be supported by the government, or deliberately avoided doing so because they had 'a caste bias' which translated on the ground into 'inaction against the rioters, connivance with the vandals, absence from duty/ desertion, abatement of the hooligans," she said quoting from the report.
"Mere suspensions and transfer of the indicted officers and officials will not do. The government should act fast and take prompt and deterrent action against those named in the report. Any delay will make people, who are fast getting fed up with the BJP government, hit the streets," she added.
