Young shuttler H S Prannoy reached the quarterfinals of the Yonex Sunrise Vietnam Grand Prix Open after beating Malaysia's Iskandar Zulkarnain Zainuddin but it was curtains for Ajay Jayaram in the men's singles competition at Hochiminh City in Vietnam today.
Fifth seed Prannoy thrashed 16th seed Iskandar 21-15 21-11 in just 33 minutes. He had beaten Malaysia's Soon Huat Goh 25-23 21-15 in the earlier round at the Tan Binh Sports Center here.
However, 15th seeded Jayaram, who is making a comeback after a shoulder injury, lost to eight seed Mohamad Arif Abdul Latif of Malaysia 20-22 16-21. The Indian had won against Hsuan Yi Hsueh 21-15 21-18 in round 3.
Jayaram did his rehabilitation in Mumbai for a couple of months after suffering a shoulder injury. The World Championship at Denmark was his first international tournaments since Syed Modi Grand Prix Gold in January.
