SDPO (Chanchol) Abhishek Majumder said the ambulance was taking Najdi Bibi (20), who was in an advanced stage of pregnancy, her mother-in-law and elder sister to Malda Medical College and Hospital.
The pregnant woman was referred to the Malda hospital by doctors of Harischandrapur Block Primary Health Centre.
But the ambulance hit a tree at Kagia More near Samsi on NH-81.
When the three and the driver were brought to Malda Medical College and Hospital, Najdi Bibi was declared dead on arrival, the SDPO said.
