"The President of India is Visitor to every institute under the NITSER Act, 2007. This is for the first time that a Conference of Directors of National Institutes of Technology (NITs) is being convened by the President," a Rashtrapati Bhavan press statement said.
It said 30 Directors of NITs will participate in the meet which would be addressed Mukherjee, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and HRD Minister M M Pallam Raju.
"The agenda of the Conference includes steps required to improve the quality of technical education and faculty development in NITs to bring it at par with top technical institutions of the world, steps needed to create inter- linkages of NITs with the industry, steps required to use National Knowledge Network effectively in the NITs and suggestions to improve the Visitor-NIT interface within the existing statutory framework of each NIT," the statement said.
