A prisoner allegedly committed suicide in the Dumka Central jail Wednesday evening, officials said.
The prisoner identified as Gobardhan Pujhar(35), a resident of Jirulia village of the district allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself in an under-construction building in the jail premises, they said.
Pujhar was sent to jail on November 18 in connection with a scuffle case, Sub-Divisional Officer, Rakesh Kumar said.
The Officer-in-charge of Dumka Town police station, Debbrat Poddar said the incident came to light in course of the head counts of jail inmates when the jail authorities found one inmates missing.
A search was launched immediately, Poddar said, adding that Pujhar was found hanging from a ceiling of the under-construction building.
