"Principal secretary of the state Transport Department Alapan Bandyopadhyay asked us to wait for 15 days so that he can look into our request to stop police atrocities and huge fines on our drivers and conductors. So we have decided to call off tomorrow's strike," Joint Council of Bus Syndicates general secretary Tapan Banerjee told PTI.
Banerjee said that if there was no "fruitful solution" to their problems, they would go in for "back-to-back" strikes after the lapse of next 15 days.
The strike had been called by Bengal Bus Syndicate, Joint Council of Bus Syndicates along with Minibus Operator Coordination Committee, All Bengal Bus and Minibus Sammanay Samity and Howrah Jilla Bus Syndicates besides, operators in Howrah and both North 24-Parganas and South 24-Parganas districts.
