Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Police today informed the Madras High Court Bench here that it has found violation of University Grants Commission (UGC) norms in appointment of 38 teaching and non-teaching staff of Madurai Kamaraj University in 2010.
VAC, directed by the court to probe allegations of irregularities in the appointments made in 2010 during the tenure of Karpaga Kumaravel as Vice-Chancellor, in its report said public servants of the university had abused their official position for pecuniary advantage to wrongfully select candidates and made cognizable offences.
The report was submitted on a petition filed by one I Ismail who had submitted that appointment of 110 teaching and non-teaching staff had been made violating the UGC norms and procedure and sought an investigation by VAC.
The agency found that 38 teaching and non-teaching staff, out of 110 staff, had been selected without following the procedure.
The report submitted that irregularities in the appointments included selection of applicants whose applications were rejected by the scrutiny committee. In some cases, candidates had been selected even though their applications were not scrutinised by the scrutiny committee.
Eligibile candidates were not offered a chance to write the test and attend the interview, while non-eligible candidates had been selected, it said.
Taking note of the report, Justice M.Sathyanarayanan posted the case for hearing to April 27.
