The Commission's move comes after Rupinder Kaur alleged that she along with her friend Dr Harmandeep Rai were "mistreated, wrongfully detained and harassed" at the Indira Gandhi International airport in Delhi on September 29.
In her complaint lodged through North American Punjabi Association (NAPA), Kaur said immigration officials detained her and asked offending questions regarding her relationship with Dr Rai, which had nothing to do with her identity and the charges against her, a Commission spokesman said here.
A case was "wrongfully" registered against Dr Rai "for causing hindrance in the official investigation", she said.
Later she was freed without any charge, but a case was registered against Dr Rai, who was detained at a police station till he got bail, the spokesman said.
The Commission asked the Ministry of External Affairs, Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs, Protector of Immigrants and Bureau of Immigration to inquire into the case and apprise it about action taken on or before February 7.
