Prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the CrPC were promulgated in Mango police station area of the city late tonight following a clash between the members of two communities over an eve-teasing incident, official sources said.
Keeping in view of the prevailing situation, prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the CrPC have been promulgated to maintain law and order situation, Alok Kumar, Sub-Divisional Officer (Dalbhum), said.
The clash took place over an eve-teasing incident by a member of a particular community, forcing the other community members to assembled near a temple in Mango and put up road blockade. Kumar said a similar incident had taken place two days ago in the area.
Amid the prevailing tension, the members of both the communities indulged in brick-batting even as the district police force intervened to pacify the warring groups.
Additional police forces have been deployed in view of the brewing tension, and Senior Superintendent of Police Anoop T Mathew, along with senior district officials, rushed to the spot to take stock of the situation, he said.
Kumar said the situation was well under control but tense, forcing the East Singhbhum district administration to impose Section 144 of the CrPC.
Some people were reportedly injured in the melee but the exact number could not be ascertained.
Kumar confirmed that two policemen sustained injuries in the brick-batting and were rushed to a nearby hospital.
There was, however, no official confirmation about reports of police firing to disperse the warring group.
Police sources said adequate forces have been deployed in and around the trouble-torn area of Mango.
