The Goa government's proposed Film Financing Scheme is likely to make mandatory for producers to give 50 per cent of the screen space to local artists.
The proposed scheme is expected to be placed before the Cabinet soon for its nod.
"The Film Financing Scheme is almost ready and will be placed before the (state) Cabinet sometimes later this or (in the) coming week (for approval). The scheme is expected to provide boost to production of local films," Entertainment Society of Goa's (ESG) Vice Chairman Damodar Naik told PTI today.
After approval, the scheme will be financed through the Goa Information and Publicity department and implemented by ESG.
Naik said the proposed scheme will ensure that the producer is financially benefited up to Rs 40 lakh after production of the movie and also local artists will get proper justice on the screen.
"The producer can avail the benefit of the (proposed) scheme provided (that) he/she have local artists having at least 50 per cent of the screen presence in the movie," he said.
According to the Vice Chairman, only the Goan producers will be entitled for the scheme and at least 50 per cent of the shooting should be in Goa (to avail benefit of the scheme).
The scheme is also likely to make it mandatory that 50 per cent of the total technicians should be locals.
Naik said a screening committee would view the film approving the benefits under the scheme.
"The finance would be provided only after the film is ready. The producer will get reimbursement up to Rs 40 lakh," the Vice Chairman added.
