MYL Manjeshwar unit president A K M Ashraf, who addressed the protesters near the airport premises, demanded that officials taking a 'discriminatory' attitude towards passengers from Kasaragod be immediately replaced.
It had become common for expatriates belonging to Kasaragod to bear "ill-treatment and humiliation" from airport officials, he alleged.
Poor passengers from the region were being detainedfor hours in the name of interrogation, he alleged.
Manjeshwar MLA P B Abdul Razak saidthe people of Kasaragod had supported the establishment of theinternational airport in Mangaluru.
Reacting to the allegations, Airport Director J T Radhakrishna said that barring some minor incidents, MIA was one of the best in the country in terms ofcustomer satisfaction.
It was ranked second in South India andfifth among tier-two airports in the country, he said.
