Police lathicharged a group of people of Periapattu village for pelting stones at them during a protest by the villagers who feared that the release of effluents by a textile factory, propsoed to be come up there, would affect their cultivation.
The villagers alleged that the release of waste water into their fields would affect their cultivation, police said.
The villagers pelted stones at the factory and the police personnel who arrived there following which they were 0 lathicharged.
Six persons who sustained minor injuries were admitted to hospital, police said, adding no arrestes were made.
