Public curfew by JCILPS ends in Manipur

Public curfew imposed by the Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS) demanding implementation of Inner Line Permit (ILP) system in Manipur ended peacefully today, a police official said.
JCILPS imposed public curfew from 4 am to 4 pm today all of a sudden after the second sitting of talks between JCILPS and the state government on August 12 at the chief minister's secretariate conference hall.
JCILPS expressed its dissatisfaction over the Manipur government's failure to include five points mentioned in its 99 page memorandum submitted earlier to the state government, according to Md Kheirudin Shah Moijingmayum, Assistant media coordinator of JCILPS.
All the business establishments including shops, hotels movie halls, main women markets were completely closed today, a police official said.
All vehicles except those belonging to the security forces were off the road which included inter-state buses plying between Imphal-Guwahati via Dimapur and Kohima (Nagaland), Impha-Silchar (Assam), Imphal-Kohima via Jasami and taxi services like Imphal-Dimapur, Imphal-Silchar via Jiribam, Imphal-Aizawl via Churachandpur, Imphal-Moreh, Imphal-Kohima via Jassami and Ukhrul, Imphal-Tamenglong, Imphal-Senapati, Imphal-Ukhrul,Imphal-Thoubal and Imphal-Bishnupur were also off the road today due to public curfew imposed by JCILPS, the official said.
All educational institutions including government schools, private schools, colleges and Manipur University, Central Agricultural University, Iroisemba, and NIT, Imphal were closed today.
Attendance in all state and central government offices located in Manipur was very thin.
