Public Prosecutor Ranjit Ganguly told the court of First Additional District Judge Indranil Bhattacharya that the 36 accused were 'innocent' and that he has based his appeal on the basis of a letter written to him by the people of Dubrajpur in Birbhum district, where the clash had occured in May, that the accused were innocent, ailing and poor.
The 36 were found guilty by police during investigation in connection with a clash in which Amit Chakrabarty, a sub inspector of Dubrajpur police station, was critically injured. He succumbed to his wounds after two months in July.
The judge set January 19 as the date of hearing.
