Pune police commissioner Rashmi Shukla today led 'Walk with CP' in Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park at Hinjawadi here today, which was aimed at boosting the confidence of IT professionals in the wake of murder of 23-year-old Rasila Raju OP at Infosys building last month.
The walk started from Wipro campus and culminated at Infosys in the IT hub with hundreds of IT employees taking part.
Talking to PTI over the phone, Shukla said, "The walk was organised to build confidence among the employees, especially female employees, post-January 29 incident, that certain security steps are being taken for women's safety."
She told the women IT professionals that they can make use of helpline number 1091.
"I also told them that police are planning to start a 'buddy cop' system in which a group of 15 to 20 female employees can be connected to a cop, who will help them in panic situation," she said.
The commissioner also talked about SOS calls and using GPS, satellite and RFIDs (radio-frequency identification) to ensure safety of women.
"During my interaction with employees, I heard out the issues of female employees, who raised concerns about working on weekends and that too during odd hours.
"I told them that their concerns will be conveyed to their managements," said Shukla.
The commissioner added that she was going to call a meeting of HR officials and security heads of IT companies to discuss what they can do to ensure employees' safety.
