Punjab Congress today launched a mass contact programme from Gurdaspur district to mobilise Dalits against what it alleged anti-people policies of the Parkash Singh Badal government in the state.
Congress state chief Pratap Singh Bajwa said the focus of the programme will be to expose "atrocities against the Dalits in the state". He cited the case of a teenage girl who died after being thrown from a moving bus in Moga.
Bajwa also attacked the Narendra Modi-led Central government.
"People will be made aware about anti-people and anti-Dalit policies of the Modi government which curtailed allocations for social welfare schemes by 30 per cent. In Punjab, people are not getting old age and other pensions and assistance under 'shagun' scheme for months," he alleged.
Under the mass contact programme, all 34 reserve constituencies would be covered by September 28 with two constituencies every week, he said in a release.
The feedback, received during the mass contact programmes, will be communicated to the party high command so that the key issues concerning the people could be included in the party manifesto.
Bajwa said that he will cover 175 km with 15 km walk every day. This phase would continue till March end.
