Punjab govt ask depts to follow guideline on promotion of SCs

The Punjab government has directed all heads of the departments and senior officials to follow reservation guidelines for Scheduled Castes for Class I and Class II promotions through Departmental Promotion Committees.
All heads of the departments, Divisional Commissioners, Deputy Commissioners, Registrars, Punjab and Haryana High Court judges, District Session Judges and Sub Divisional Officers have been asked to follow the reservation guidelines.
An official spokesman of Welfare Department said today that it has come to the notice of the government that various administrative departments were ignoring the promotion guidelines of Punjab government.
The representatives of Social Welfare have given their dissenting note regarding violation of promotion guidelines set for Scheduled Castes during promotions of Class-I and Class-II officers, he said.

It has also been observed that the administrative departments without paying attention to the note of representative, awarded the promotions, affecting the benefits of Scheduled Castes officers.
This step has adversely affecting the promotion prospects of employees belonging to Schedule Castes community, he said.
In future, no person in the reserved category would be promoted without consultation with the Welfare department, he said.
