Following stiff opposition, Punjab government today said that no slaughter house will be allowed to be set up in the state.
A spokesman of the Chief Minister's Office said here today that the government fully respected the sentiments of the people in this regard and would do nothing that hurts their feelings.
The spokesman said the decision came "in the wake of controversy surrounding a slaughter house project near Sangrur".
Several Hindu organisations had been protesting against the setting up of a slaughter house at Ghanauri Kalan village in Sangrur district.
They had demanded that the state government stop the construction of proposed slaughter house, failing which they would observe 'bandh' in the district.
