Punjab Assembly Speaker Rana K P Singh today constituted a committee to review farmers' suicide in the state and prepare a report on it.
MLA Sukhbinder Singh Sarkaria was named the chairman of this panel, and legislators Nathu Ram, Kuljit Singh Nagra, Najar Singh Manshahaia and Harinderpal Singh Chandumajra as its members.
The committee was constituted in compliance with a resolution put forward by Chief Minister Amarinder Singh in the Assembly on June 19, a spokesperson of the speaker's office said here.
He said the panel would meet the family members of farmers who had committed suicide to probe the reasons behind the step and prepare a comprehensive report with recommendations to tackle it.
The committee would also find out the reasons behind poor financial condition of farm labourers and suggest ways to bail them out, the spokesperson said.
