Punjab to host mega event to mark 50th anniversary of 1965 war

To celebrate 50th Anniversary of courage and valour of Indian soldiers in the 1965 Indo-Pakistan war, Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today announced to mark September 9 as mega event at village Amarkot in Tarn Taran district, a spokesperson said today.
Badal took the decision in a high level meeting at his official residence here. He asked the concerned officers to make elaborate arrangements for the event, he added.
Badal said that our soldiers sacrificed their lives to protect our borders. This function is to mark India's great feat will act as source of inspiration and inculcate feelings of patriotism and nationalism amongst our youth, spokesperson said.
He asked the officers to ensure maximum participation of the heirs of martyrs and serving army officers in a bid to pay homage to the war heroes in a befitting manner.
The CM also directed the officers to ensure participation of heirs of Abdul Hameed, Company Quarter Master Havaldar, destroyed four tanks during the war. The soldier was awarded with highest military award Param Vir Chakara posthumously.
It should be mentioned here that Punjab was known as 'Graveyard of Pakistan's Ultramodern Patton Tanks'. Brave Indian soldiers destroyed many Patton tanks in this area during the war.
The CM said the invitations should be sent well in advance to ensure participation of the representatives of units which took part in this war.
