Apparently taking a cue from AAP, Rahul Gandhi today announced that candidates in 15 constituencies would be chosen on the basis of feedback received from village heads and party workers at the grassroots.
Gandhi also promised that the formula, if successful, will be replicated elsewhere as well.
The Congress Vice President said after involving the common man directly in the manifesto-making exercise, a decision has now been taken to enable people at the grassroots to directly elect their candidates.
"In 15 constituencies in the Lok Sabha polls, we will finalise candidates by asking party workers. They will directly elect candidates," Gandhi said.
AAP had also taken feedback from people while selecting candidates for the Delhi Assembly polls.
The Congress leader said the Panchayati Raj system constructed and reinforced by Congress had allowed millions of people to get access to the political system and exponentially increased democracy in the country, but the opposition was trying to shut down the democratic processes that his party had strengthened.
AICC general secretary and Communication Department Chairman Ajay Maken announced a phone number '1800 208 2020', to help Congressman connect with the party directly.
He said a missed call on the number would get the partymen automatically registered to receive communication from the organisation.
AAP, which has formed government in Delhi with the support of Congress, had recently launched a helpline through which residents could register their complaints against graft.
