Three illegal coal depots in Bilaspur were raided from where over 1,000 tonnes of coal worth about Rs one crore was seized, police said today.
"Raid was conducted at the coal depots located at Madku, Kirna and Mohanbhatta villages under Hirri police station limits on Bilaspur-Raipur National Highway by Cyber Cell team, and over 1,000 tonne coal seized yesterday," City Superintendent of Police Abhishek Meena told PTI.
"Besides, thirty trucks including about half a dozen JCB machines were also recovered from the spots," he added.
The seized coal was valued at about 1 crore, he said.
The coal (carried on trucks) was being supplied from South Eastern Coal Fields Limited (SECL) mines to companies and industries of Raipur but in-between was illegally dumped in these depots, the police official said.
"During interrogation, the drivers admitted that the superior quality of coal which was supplied from SECL was dumped here and in its place inferior quality coal was loaded in the trucks," Meena said.
Cases under various sections of IPC and Mining Act have been registered against Mohan Agrawal, Deepak Singh and Vikky Bhimnani, the owners of depots, he said, adding they were being interrogated.
