Railway gatekeeper attacked

A railway gatekeeper, suffered grievious injuries when he was assaulted allegedly by a man for closing the level crossing gate near Punnappra in Alapuzha.
The incident occurred on July 18 and the gatekeeper, Dharmendra Meena, has been admitted to a hospital, a railway press release said today.
The man was assaulted and threatened with a sword by one Anas, who has been arrested under IPC section 332 (causing hurt to public servant on duty), 351 (assault on duty) and 294 (b) (abusing) and 506 (criminal intimidation) and remanded to judicial custody, it said.
Incidents of gatekeepers being threatened and assaulted for closing the gate are on the rise.
Similar incidents have occurred in the past in many sections of Trivandrum Division, it said, adding, Railways shall strive to ensure safer running of trains and safety of road users and take appropriate actions against anyone who endanger the same.
