Security has been beefed up at all the railway stations, including at Jammu, Udhampur, Katra, Kathua and Samba, and on tracks, the official said.
"The railways have been put on alert and employees have been asked to be present in their offices ahead of Independence Day. It is done as a routine before such days," he said.
"The security has been beefed up at railway stations and on the track. Security personnel have been asked to be alert," Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP)-Railway Mohd Arshad said.
The decision comes a day after a crude bomb and a letter warning of revenge for the killing of Lashkar-e-Taiba commander Abu Dujana was recovered from the Amritsar-bound Akal Takth Express at Amethi in Uttar Pradesh by the Government Railway Police.
