Railway police IG allays fears of rail passengers

Four special teams have been formed to nab the culprits involved in incidents of chain-snatching from rail passengers, Inspector General of Police (Railways) Seema Agarwal today said.
Security in night trains has been strengthened and passengers need not worry about travelling in trains, the official, on a visit here to probe the incidents, told reporters after a meeting with higher officials of regional railway and Salem District Police here.
A six-member masked gang had boarded the Blue Mountain express when it slowed down on a track near Sankari Durg in the district early morning yesterday and stole jewellery from sleeping women passengers and made good their escape.

In a similar incident on April 26, passengers of Mayiladuthurai-Mysore express train were relieved of their gold ornaments when the train was nearing Karuvalli rural station near here.
