A bulletin issued by the met office here said the well marked low pressure area over west central Bay of Bengal lay as a low pressure area over west central Bay of Bengal and adjoining coastal areas of north Andhra Pradesh and south Odisha at 0830 hours today.
As a result rain or thundershower would occur at most places over north Odisha and in many places in south Odisha, said Sarat Sahu, the director of IMD, Bhubaneswar.
In another warning, the met office said dense fog which would reduce surface visibility top less than 200 m may occur at some places over interior Odisha during the next 24 hours.
The rain and chilly weather forced New Year celebrations to be held indoors unlike in the other years.
